Central Dauphin goalkeeper Carter Fitzgerald wants a gold medal before he finishes the season, and why wouldn't he? Up to this point, he has captained his team to an outstanding 14-2 record, including 10-1 in their conference. While they are your defending champions, they still have playoffs to get through.
After playing a striker role last season, Fitzgerald moved back to the goalkeeper, as that is where his team needed him. "You see the field in a completely different way when you're a goalie compared to upfront," He says the move was far easier for him and was almost more manageable than the initial move to the striker position in the first place.
When asked about looking ahead to playoffs and if there was anyone specific he was looking forward to playing, he was more focused on whoever was at hand. "We're just looking at playing whoever comes up. We're going to put our best squad out there. Wherever we go, we are going to try and beat them" In terms of rivalries and past matchups, Dallastown has developed into a bit of a rivalry for the CD Rams, as they've met multiple times in playoffs recently, including their vast overtime win against them last year.
When asked about his future, Fitzgerald mentioned his dream of being able to continue his playing and academic careers. While he hasn't named any schools specifically, be on the lookout for where he might be headed.
While rapping up the interview, Fitzgerald spoke on how much it would mean for him and the rest of his senior class to win that title again. "We put in that work to try and get the big title. Districts, even states, ending off on that. I think that everyone has that mentality for the team that we could do that."
