In the fourth inning of play between the Lions of Camp Hill and the Wildcats of Mechanicsburg in the Mid Penn Championship at Hershey high school, the Wildcats brought in 8 runs and it seemed like they were absolutely unbeatable.
Being a 5A school, and with a full 16 team bracket, Mechanicsburg holds a 3 seed in their district, and they'll face 14 seed Lampeter Strasburg. The Pioneers finished first in the Lancaster Lebanon 2 division with 9 overall losses and 1 in division loss to Conestoga Valley, a 5-4 loss on April 27.
Recently, Lampeter Strasburg participated in the 2022 Lancaster Lebanon league tournament, which unlike the Mid Penn tournament, consists of 8 teams over 5 days. First, they beat Anville Cleona by a score of 12-3. Next round, the Pioneers faced the ultimate champions of the tournament, Manheim Township, and Lampeter was outmatched by Manheim 12-5.
As for Mechanicsburg, the team pitched Reese Young in the first game of the Mid Penn tournament. A game they won vs. Altoona at Milton Hershey high school. In the second game, the Wildcats pitched Will Hummel, a senior. I project Luke Morgan, the otherwise first basemen to pitch in the first round of their district championship run.
Mechanicsburg will face the winner of 6 seed Susquehannock vs 11 seed, fellow Mid Penn team Northern. Suquehannock went 1-3 against Mid Penn teams this season. They lost to East Penn, Camp Hill, and Central Dauphin, while beating CD East. Northern finished second in the Mid Penn Colonial division. It came down to the wire on who would win the division, and Greencastle came out on top, and lost 1-0 to Camp Hill in the first round of the tournament.
There's a good number of other Mid Penn teams in the 5A bracket, considering the classification allows of 16 teams to make the playoffs. The bracket will allow for the top 5 finishers to advance to states.
