Trinity Advances to District Final After Second Consecutive Postseason Shutout

CAMP HILL- Trinity continued to roll through the District 3 2A girls soccer bracket Tuesday night, with a big win against Susquenita, 3-0. Goals from Frances Maury, Grace Notarfrancesco, and Kari Powell lifted the Shamrocks over the Blackhawks in the Semi-Final round of District play.

Like many District playoff games, the first goal served as the momentum changer for the Mid-Penn conference match-up at COBO field, a goal scored by Frances Maury with 17:40 left in the first half.

“It was really important because we struggle getting the first goal sometimes so just putting it in the back of the net gives a lot of momentum”, Frances Maury said post-game on the first goal scored.

The goal not only allowed Trinity to have the early advantage, but it also gave Trinity a halftime lead, which is not something they’re unfamiliar with. The Shamrocks were up 1-0 after Kari Powell’s first goal against East Penn on Saturday morning’s District 3 Quarterfinal game. Similar to Saturday’s game, this was another physical approach by the lower seed, looking to play scrappy and knock off 2A’s top seed.

“I felt like it was physical but definitely not as dirty. I didn’t find myself getting bodied as much, they were cleaner” Maury said of the physicality of tonight’s bout.

A name to note tonight was certainly Cauley Spahr, who didn’t put one in herself, but accounted for the assist on all 3 Trinity goals, including a corner kick to Grace Notarfrancesco. Spahr is a Trinity senior, like many of her teammates, and they’re not letting up this postseason. After cruising through their first two District playoff games, Trinity is looking ahead to the District final, which is held Saturday at Cumberland Valley’s Eagle View or Mountain View stadiums, at a time TBD (3 PM or 5 PM). Trinity will lose home field advantage, which has played an important role throughout their postseason.

After Trinity’s Quarterfinal win, star Senior Kari Powell told Mid Penn Sports Weekly that they’ll play wherever, and now they’ll see the Eagle View turf for the first time this season.

“It’s really big for us because, for most of us, it’s going to be our first time playing there, and playing for a district championship, and we just want to play and win.” Frances Maury said post-game about their new venue to finish the District playoffs.

Trinity moves on to outscore playoff opponents 6-0, after two 3-0 shutout victories in a row, which is huge to have two strong wins going into a District final.

“Just having that strong win with no goals against is really important for our mental game.” Cauley Spahr claimed post-game.

Trinity will go on to face Wyomissing in the District final, who beat their rival, Berks Catholic 3-1 in their Semi-Final match-up. Susquenita will host Berks Catholic on Saturday, November 5 at a time TBD. Trinity, with the win, clinched a state playoff berth, while Susquenita now faces a win-and-in, lose and go home game on Saturday.
