From the outside looking in, it may seem like a big upset when the Northern Polar Bears pulled off a win against the Mid Penn's newest addition, the Gettysburg Warriors, but for Northern's quarterback Timmy Bonin, it was business as usual when his team won in a thrilling 24-23 final on Friday night.
In addition to it being an important victory to keep Northern playoff hopes alive, there was also an emotional aspect of Friday's nights game, as it was Bonin, along with fellow Polar Bear seniors' final home game under the Friday night lights, Bonin said on Episode 19 on Mid Penn Sports Weekly: "It was our final game at home, we thought we were better, and we were."
Northern, with Friday's win, possess the 12th spot in the District 3 5A rankings, which happens to be the final playoff spot, and with a win against Mechanicsburg on Friday, they could take on the playoffs, Bonin seemed unfazed by the pressure he faces Friday, saying "we're really just trying to do whatever we can to get into playoffs, but you never know what can happen."
Bonin also said he has looked at some potential playoff opponents, including two opponents they've seen in the regular season, last Friday's Gettysburg and Shippensburg.
