114- Keegan Barrick (Big Spring) vs Erik Carlile (Penns Valley) Bout #222
Barrick wrested tough in his first two matches on Thursday. He started with Grove City's Tanner Hamilton and a 10-6 decision win to start, then was tasked with Chartiers-Houston's Jorden Williams, who he led until two takedown points from Williams with 1:05 remaining. The two gave him the lead and the win, putting Barrick in the consolation round of 8. Now Barrick will wrestle Carlile, who was a tough challenge for McDevitt's Zane Crouse, when he beat Crouse 12-1 in the round of 32.
114- Zane Crouse (McDevitt) vs Carter Beck (Saegertown) Bout #223
Crouse is making his first trip to GIANT Center for the individual championships, but 33 wins throughout the season helped McDevitt get to Hershey for the team championships earlier this season. Crouse lost in a regular decision to Line Mountain's Brock Rothermel in the round of 16 after his earlier win against Erik Carlile. He'll get ready to face Beck, a junior with 107 wins for Saegertown.
139- Noah Doi (Camp Hill) vs Parker Pisarchick (Brockway) Bout #253
Doi got a bye to the round of 16 on Thursday after a strong season through the playoffs. He started his day with a loss to Burrell's Cooper Hornack, placing him in the consolation bracket. Doi finished seventh in last year's state tournament. Hornack, on the other hand, won the state tournament at weight 127 in his junior season. Since then, he's committed to Columbia University. From there, Doi went on to face Blain Puchalsky from West Perry in the consolation round of 16. It was the first, and so far only, Mid-Penn meeting throughout the tournament. Doi was able to get a decision win, 4-1, over Puchalsky in order to survive and advance through the consolations. That'll be the mindset tomorrow as Doi battles through more consolations, starting with Pisarchick in bout 253. Pisarchick proved to be a tough out when he defeated McDevitt's Liam Lawler in the consolation round of 16.
139- Easton Comp (McDevitt) vs Nolan Baumert (Line Mountain) Bout #255
Comp had perhaps the toughest assignment of them all on Thursday, handling Bishop McCort's Bo Bassett, one of the toughest wrestlers in the state with a perfect 71-0 record through his first two seasons. Comp lost 8-2 on a pin in the round of 16, putting him into consolations round of 32, where he faced Elizabeth Forward's Lucas Boyer, and won in a highly defensive 1-0 bout. The single point win moves Comp onto Nolan Baumert of Line Mountain in the first round of eight.
152- Jenson Hockenberry-Folk (West Perry) vs Joey Ney (Biglerville)
Hockenberry-Folk had a bye in the initial round of 32 on Thursday, but dealt with Clearfield's Brady Collins, who's compiled 115 wins as a junior. Collins added to that tally with a win over Hockenberry-Folk with a pin over Folk during a 15-1 lead in the second period. Hockenberry-Folk went on to wrestle Chance Kimmy in the consolation round of 16, where he got back in the win column with a 7-3 decision win on Kimmy from General McLane. Now, Hockenberry-Folk will face Joey Ney, a District 3 champion and regional 5th placer from earlier this postseason.
172- Anthony DeAngelo (Trinity) vs Braedon Welsh (Fort Cherry) Bout #285
DeAngelo started his day with a pin over Grant Yount of Midd-West. From there, he wrestled Grove City's Hunter Hohman, a tough challenge who lost the state championship bout last year, has placed first in the preliminary tournaments this postseason, and committed to American University in August. Hohman won 16-1 in his bout with DeAngelo, placing him in the consolation bracket. DeAngelo will wrestle his first consolation bout tomorrow against Fort Cherry's Braedon Welsh.
189- Lucas Lawler (McDevitt) vs Mason Higley (Towanda)
Not to be confused with Lucas, or any of the other Lawler athletic siblings, Lucas only got one match in on Thursday with a bye through the round of 32 and a loss in the round of 16 to Derry Area's Brady Brown. It was a very close match, 2-1, with Lawler's point coming with 1:53 in the final period, making it a one point bout with close to two minutes to go, but nothing from there. It sends Lawler to the consolation round against Mason Higley from Towanda, who placed 2nd in his District and Region before the trip to Hershey.
285- Owen Hutchinson (Big Spring) vs Aiden Hidlay (Central Columbia)
Hutchinson battled in his first match of the day, which came in the round of 32. Hutchinson got the first point from an escape in period one, but was not able to put together a strong final period, as he gave up two on a reversal and another two on a nearfall, allowing four in the final period for a 4-1 loss. His consolation round of 16 opponent Josh Beal from Central Clarion forfeited the match, allowing Hutchinson to advance to face Hidlay. Hidlay placed 3rd in Districts and 4th in Regionals, while Hutchinson lost his District final and placed 4th in Regionals.
