"Keep energy high”: Sammy Widnick talks Central Dauphin Soccer State Playoff Run

Central Dauphin will compete for a spot in the big one, the state championship. They are currently slated to play Owen J. Roberts in hopes of advancing and facing the winner of the Neshaminy and Penn-Ridge game. Widely due to the outstanding play of goalkeeper, Sammy Widnick.

We asked what the key to making it this far was for the Rams, this is what she had to say "I think definitely not getting caught up in our losses and that district final that we were just talking about, like it was definitely very like, taxing on us. So I think not getting caught up in that and knowing how much potential we have as well as like staying healthy again is a long season, so really keeping injuries away has been really important to us." Widnick made it clear that this team always had faith, it's just about keeping that throughout the season.

The CD Rams have made it super far, but that isn't without their share of losses. They had a very tough loss in the district champions which would have been detrimental to many programs confidence and enthusiasm. This is that she had to say about it "Yeah, I think it's been really crucial. Our seeding, actually, we have, I think we have pretty good seeds. We did beat North Allegheny, who was the District seven champion and just proving that we were just right up with Manheim, I think has showed a lot of people that we are just as good as them." While they may have lost their own, they've beaten other district champions on the road through states.

Of course, there have also been some super great moments for Widnick along the way to where they are now. Including beating a big time rival who they've had trouble with in the past, "I think definitely winning against Cumberland Valley was my favorite moment of the season. We all wanted that so badly and to beat them when nothing was just like such a good feeling because they're our Bible school and beating them was just, it was so good."

While this team may have a bit of ways to go, including at least two more games, CD is feeling good and they are feeling confident. As previously mentioned, they play Owen J. Roberts on 11/15 @ 7 PM. The winner of that will face off for the state championship against the winner of Neshaminy and Penn-Ridge, also on 11/16 at 6 PM.
