Reagan Eickhoff's Late Goal Lifts Boiling Springs to Program's First State Championship

MECHANICSBURG- All season the Boiling Springs Bubblers have been undefeated, and they ultimately became the only undefeated Field Hockey team in the state of Pennsylvania, regardless of classification. The Bubblers had one more opponent left to conquer, the Wyoming Warriors, and with Reagan Eickhoff’s late, 4th quarter goal, the Bubblers not only maintained their undefeated season, but won the PIAA 1A State Championship.

Like many playoff bouts in this year’s PIAA Distirct 3, and PIAA State Tournament, it looked like the 1A Championship was well on its way to overtime, as both Boiling Springs and Wyoming were locked at 0’s on the board, yet to score a goal. Eickhoff, with 6 minutes to play, had a look at the goal, and got so close that it sent Bubbler fans into a frenzy, assuming their team had just scored with little time for a Wyoming response. The only problem is that the ball didn’t find the goal, instead it hit the outside of the net and missed, keeping the game scoreless. Then, the Bubblers, specifically Reagan Eickhoff, had another look at the goal, and this time there was no doubt. Eickhoff scored off a corner shot and from the very top of Chapman field’s bleachers, you could hear the ball smacking the goal, giving the Bubblers a 1-0 lead.

Boiling Springs then went on to play keep away, limiting any opportunities for the Warriors to respond. And they didn’t. Wyoming didn’t find an opportunity to tie the game up in the last 3 minutes of their state championship, and the Bubblers were deemed 2022 PIAA Class 1A State Champions.

It was the first ever State Championship for Boiling Springs Field Hockey, and the trophy was lifted in spectacular fashion, as the Bubblers knew they worked through every game for this. It’s hard to beat teams twice, and the Bubblers did just that to all of their in division opponents in the Mid Penn Capital Division, and they beat their out of division opponents, and playoff opponents.

Boiling Springs’ Reagan Eickhoff said in a Mid Penn Weekly Interview earlier this week that she felt this run was “super special”, especially with the group of Seniors and the friends she grew up with. She “pulled in” her friends when she decided to play High School Field Hockey. Friends like Genna Bush, Shae Benett, and more have now seen the benefits of playing high school field hockey, as they lifted the trophy on Saturday afternoon.
